Just as technology continually develops, so must our understanding of the ways in which we can use it to help students overcome their various learning challenges.
The sites and Apps presented on this page have been chosen for their efficacy in teaching not only students with special needs, but a wide variety of learners. A professional goal of mine is to grow in my understanding and use of technology within my work with students. The Siri User Guide helps students understand how to maximize their experiences with speech-to-text dictation, something that has revolutionized the way in which many struggling writers are able to express themselves. Learning Ally offers learners with identified needs access to an archive of audio books. Times Tables the Fun Way provides an entertaining (and therefore memorable) way to not only encode but also recall these math facts with greater automaticity, an essential part of the math experience for most students. Read2Go is the App created by Bookshare, which offers one of the largest audio book libraries available for struggling readers. Time Timers provide a clear visual representation of a countdown, helping students with difficulties in time management stay on task. I have already implemented the use of all of these with many of my clients, and look forward to finding new ways to support learning.
